Dust on my keyboard
as I sit down to reach for a poem.
This town has changed
since that Thursday.
Charred fields
and brick-heavy hearts
I watched the smoke rise
and billow
until the sky turned black
I felt my own tender spirit swell
and burst, not knowing where these tears were coming from
My soul’s sorrow, an unknown collective grief
